Hi, I'm a travel journalist & editor, an audio journalist & producer, and a freelance webmaster & web 2.0 consultant.

This site is where I draw those different strands together.

And here (below) is some of the stuff I'm writing about at the moment...

Little Chef makes it into the Good Food Guide

Little ChefThe roadside restaurant chain, Little Chef, has managed to turn perceptions on their head by gaining entry to the prestigious Good Food Guide 2010 (published 8 Sept 09).

Last year the chain's Popham restaurant was completely revamped by Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal as part of the Channel Four series Big Chef Takes on Little Chef.

Inspectors for the Guide were impressed by the cooking of dishes like braised ox cheeks and Hereford steak and Abbot ale pie at the Popham eaterie and awarded it a cooking score of two out of ten, comparable to a good quality gastropub.

Greyhound buses to travel British roads

The Greyhound bus, something of a cultural icon in the USA where it features in so many songs and movies, is to start operating here in the UK in October.

Greyhound UK (ironically the US brand, founded in rural America in 1914, is now owned by a British company, Firstgroup) will start with an hourly service on just two South Coast routes from London Victoria to Southampton and Portsmouth.

Tickets, which can be as cheap as £1, are sold online in typical low-cost fare style - the earlier you book the cheaper they are - right up to 1hr before departure. After that, you can buy non-discounted tickets on board the bus.

The onboard service will attract many with air conditioning, complimentary newspapers and leather seats with free Wi-Fi and power sockets for all passengers.

Skiing in Turkey

Ski resort in TurkeyThe Turkish Tourist Office and Turkish Ski Committee are keen to point out that Turkey has a traditional November to April ski season at altitudes on a par with the Alps and the American Rockies, as well as year-round glacier skiing, and with modern resorts offering downhill, cross-country, heli-skiing, snowboarding and ski-schools to match.

They also highlight the prices. Turkey’s resorts are generally less costly than many other popular European ski destinations, due in part to Turkey’s currency being the Turkish Lira and not the more expensive Euro.

Saga Rose prepares for final cruise

Saga RoseSaga's popular cruise ship, Saga Rose, is to make her final voyage with the company on 30th October when she will depart her homeport of Southampton on a 37-night Farewell Voyage around the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas.

Saga cruisers have become fond of the 574-passenger ship, which is styled in the manner of a traditional country house hotel, with wood panelling, rich fabrics, teak decks and grand hotel-style cuisine.

Andrew Goodsell, Chief Executive of Saga Group, commented: "Saga Rose will be missed by both her loyal crew and the many repeat passengers who sailed with her every year. This memorable farewell voyage will be a classic end to a classic ship."

Ports of call during her Farewell Voyage include Vigo, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Venice, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Katakolon, Heraklion, Rhodes, Limassol, Haifa, Alexandria (for Cairo), Piraeus (for Athens), Valletta, Toulon, Alicante, Casablanca and La Coruna.

Dress as a pirate in Disneyland, Florida

Kids dressed as pirates in DisneylandWalt Disney World Resort in Florida is offering kids the chance to dress up as pirates this autumn.

Captain Jack and the crew of the Black Pearl are on the lookout for potential scoundrels and rogues to join their band of marauding vagabonds. Jack's crew has pillaged the East India Trading Company's office in Adventureland to create The Pirates League, where visitors can be recruited and trained in the scurrilous ways of buccaneers.

Makeovers begin with an official pirate name. Next is the muster station where a magical transformation takes place and guests receive a beard, eye patch, scarf, scars, earrings and even gold teeth - all under the watchful eye of a veteran pirate who shares his own entertaining tales of seafaring adventures.

Once they newly-transformed buccaneers recite a sacred pirate oath, they are officially part of Captain Jack's motley crew, leaving their old identities behind. Past a hidden portal and into the treasure room, the shipmates have their "pirate portrait" taken before being let loose on an unsuspecting Adventureland.

For ages three and up, pirate packages start from $49.95 + tax (approx £30) and can be booked in advance by calling 001 407 939 2739.
