Local hotel company, Modern Hotels (01534 759529), have a Jersey Half-Marathon package for those who want to either watch or participate in the event, whose one-lap course on the east of the island offers superb views across the sea to the French coast.

Entry to the Half-Marathon has to be in advance. Get details and entry form from the organisers. All entrants receive a commemorative medal and T-shirt, with trophies and prizes for the winners of different categories.

For individuals and athletic associations interested in taking part in the race, Modern Hotels (one of the major sponsors) is offering special, two-night packages at the Mayfair Hotel, one of its two hotels, starting 14 November 2009.

For £69, runners can enjoy two nights with hearty, energy-supplying breakfasts – no supplements apply for single occupancy of a double/twin room - inclusive of return transfers to the Jersey Athletics Track where the race begins and ends. Pre-bookable extras can include evening meals, a special ‘Pasta Night’ before the Half-Marathon and airport transfers. Extra nights £25 each including breakfast.

NB: BE WARNED few people know that a few months ago the reciprocal health arrangements between the UK and the Channel Islands came to an end. Take comprehensive travel insurance or be prepared for big bills if you need any health services. The Channel islands are not part of the EU so the EHIC card is of limited use too.
