BA extends early check-in for hold bags at Gatwick

British Airways passengers flying from Gatwick Airport now have the option to check in hold bags on all flights the day before departure.

Previously customers were able to check in bags if their flight departed before 3.15pm the next day.

From the start of the winter schedule on Sunday (October 25), this service will be extended to allow passengers to check in luggage between 4pm and 10pm for all British Airways flights scheduled to depart the following day. Customers checking in bags for the following day should drop their bags at the appropriate Fast Bag Drop desk in Zone D.

The extension of the bag drop hours will be welcomed by passengers who can now turn up at the airport on the day of departure and go straight to the departure lounge.

Ryanair hold luggage penalty rises by up to 250%

Ryanair has announced a steep rise in the charges for hold luggage from 1st October.

Passengers wanting to check in a single bag online will be charged a minimum fee of £15 (up from £10). If they check it in at the airport the minimum charge jumps from £20 to £30.

The fee for a second bag, currently charged at £20, will leap to £35 online and £70 if done at the airport - a 250% increase.

It's the airline's subtle way to encourage passengers to fly with only a carry-on bag.
